Maximum Medical Improvement

The point at which a condition has stabilized and is unlikely to improve further, so a permanent rating can be assigned.

Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI) is the point at which a condition is well stabilized and unlikely to change substantially over the next year, with or without treatment. An impairment is only considered permanent — and therefore ratable — once MMI is reached. The date of MMI is significant for rating, future care, and permanent work restrictions.
