Activities of Daily Living

Everyday self-care tasks like dressing, bathing, and eating used to gauge how much an impairment affects daily life.

Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) are routine self-care and functional tasks — such as bathing, dressing, eating, walking, and grooming — that the AMA Guides use as a reference point for the severity of an impairment. Impairment percentages reflect the degree to which a condition interferes with ADLs, explicitly excluding work activities.
